A Quick Sunday Read and a bit about Cornucopia

Hey Reader!

Hard to believe it's already 'tis the season.' The whirlwind of holiday-ings has begun. It's also a time for reflection on the year that's almost done, the natural process of assessment: how am I doing? What is there still to do? Then, big questions often appear, about life and meaning.

How do you ponder questions that arise? For me, I take pen to paper and hash things out in my journal. Often it takes a larger form worth sharing.

Here's one such piece just published in "Better Humans":

Is This Where You Belong?

As always, would love to hear your thoughts.

Quick Word - Words have power. Use them well.

This week's word: Cornucopia

A friend at dinner recently said: "You have a cornucopia of opportunities to choose from."

Cornucopia. What a whimsical word. I've been noodling it since, particularly this week of Thanksgiving.

It is a noun meaning "an overflowing supply." Or, "inexhaustible store."

Motherlode. Wellspring. Gold mine. Treasure trove. Repository. Argosy. Cache. Honeypot. Plethora of choices.

Originating from the Latin words Cornu (horn) and Copiae (abundance, plenty).

Which is where the term "Horn of Plenty" came from. In Greek mythology, Zeus was fed as a baby from a goat's horn by his nurse. Later, the goat's horn was filled, overflowing with an abundance of flowers and fruit, and presented to Zeus as a gift.

I recall many Thanksgiving tables adorned with cornucopias overflowing with all kinds of good things.

It got me thinking about life as a cornucopia. In other words, taking stock and appreciating where in life you are abundant, overflowing with the things that give life meaning.

“Love is a roller coaster ride with a cornucopia of emotions." – Khushie

What fills your cornucopia?

Could be opportunities. Or gratitude. Or love. Or connections. Or good conversations. Or choices. Or juicy moments in solitude. Or creativity. Or empowering words.

Or shoes.

Could be anything that enriches your life!

“I get into beatific cornucopia when I delve into books, coffee, and wanderings!" – Avijeet Das

Amen!

What are your own personal cornucopias? What fills your horn of plenty?

Something to think about.

Journal Prompt

Imagine you have a large cornucopia in front of you and you've been asked to fill it with your life's riches. What's in there? Describe it in detail. Wallow in the feelings.

Hey Reader! Every day is a day for love. This week contains THE day of love, according to St. Valentine and card designers at Hallmark. Perhaps celebrating Valentine's Day does cause us to think about love, to express love, to feel love, all the more. If it does, yay. I was blessed to share time this week with the full extension of my nucleus family. What a joy! Four generations all together. It was the first time we have all gathered since the birth of my two great-nephews in August and...

Hey Reader! Special moments highlighted this past week. I spent a sweet afternoon with my parents which included giving my mother a manicure as she prepared for a special event. It was sweet and joyful for both of us. Her hands are feminine and graceful. As I carefully applied the gel polish I recalled a lifetime of watching her hands sew, knit, paint, play the piano, garden, arrange flowers, dance, teach, type, stir and bake, set tables, design, guide, discipline, caress, love, and age....
